doggie-dog world. A wonderful place. A corruption of dog-eat-dog world.

A number of friends have informed me that as children they thought that this was the expression; they were surprised and, in some cases, shocked to discover the true pronunciation. The doggie-dog world is one of constantly wagging tails, a kind of canine utopia. Such an image is not much more credible than the competitive one evoked by dog-eat-dog.
